Bloomsburg Dedicates Field to Danny Hale

Danny Hale (L) congratulated by Dr. David Soltz (R)
BLOOMSBURG—Bloomsburg University on Saturday dedicated the field at its football stadium in honor of head coach Danny Hale.

The field at Robert B. Redman Stadium will now be known as Danny Hale Field.

The ceremony at the Nelson Field House in front of close to 200 hundred Hale family members, current and former players, including current NFL star Jahri Evans and invited guests, capped the end of Bloomsburg University Foundation's First and Goal Scholarship campaign. The total raised for football scholarships was $2.1 million dollars that will generate over $100,000 additional scholarship dollars for coach Hale and his staff.

Speaking at the event were BU president Dr. David Soltz; Erik Evans, vice-president for University Advancement; and Mike McFarland, Director of Athletics. Also on hand at the unveiling of a plaque that will commemorate the event were Steph Pettit '89 and Gerry Frey, campaign co-chairs.

Head coach Danny Hale was appreciative of the great honor.

“I am so honored to have the field named after me,” said Hale. “I want to thank the Board of Trustees and Dr. Soltz for making this happen.”

Among those on hand were Hale's wife, Diane, several of his children and grandchildren.

At Bloomsburg, Hale has posted a record of 163-54-1 (.743) and holds the school record for most coaching victories. Overall in 24 years as a head coach he has a mark of 203-67-1 (.750) and is ranked among the top 10 active coaches in NCAA Division II in winning percentage. He is one of just five active Division II coaches with at least 200 career wins going into the 2012 season.

Contributions to the First and Goal campaign are still be accepted. For information on making a financial gift, contact the Bloomsburg University Foundation at 570-389-4524 or visit www.bloomufdn.org.
