BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team (7-6, 3-0 PSAC East) fell this afternoon to the Patriots of George Mason University, 7-2.
Michelle Perez (Center Valley/Southern Lehigh) was a two-time winner today posting victories at first singles and doubles.
Bloomsburg took one of three doubles matches, earning their lone win at the number one spot.
Emily Palko (McMurray/Peters Township) and Perez teamed up for an 8-4 win which extends their doubles win streak to eight. Third doubles combo
Natalie Greenholt (Hanover/South Western) and
Nicole Slagle (Irwin/Penn Trafford) fought hard but came up just short losing 8-6 as the Huskies entered singles play down, 2-1.
Perez transferred her success in doubles to singles as she pounded her opponent at the first position in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. She leads the team in singles wins with nine and owns a 9-4 record at the first position.
The Huskies would fall in the remaining five matches as each match was concluded in straight sets. At second singles Palko fell by a break in each set, 6-3, 7-5 while
Danielle Walsh (Fairfield, CT/St. John The Baptist) made things interesting at the three spot with a 6-0, 7-5 showing.
Greenolt fell 6-1,6-1 at the four spot while Slagle fell 6-3, 6-0 at five. Freshman
Erin Reitenauer (Whitehall/Whitehall) dropped her first set by a break at 6-4 but let the second set slip away as she lost 6-0 at sixth singles.
Bloomsburg is back in action tomorrow, April 7th as they travel to take on Shippensburg in a PSAC East match at 10:00 a.m. followed by another East matchup with Cheyney at 2:00 p.m.
