BLOOMSBURG—Tara Huber's (Orefield, Parkland) goal in the 77th minute was the game's only goal lifting the Bloomsburg University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday night in the season-opener. The win was the first for the Huskies new head coach Stephanie Anderson.

The game was a back and forth throughout the first half with the Bobcats controlling the play in the first seven minutes. Bloomsburg then changed field position and began to push towards the Wesleyan goal. But neither team

In the second the Huskies had their first good scoring chance in the 33rd minute when Huber's shot was wide right. Then later Huber had good luck in front of the goal that Bobcat goalie Laura Duncan punched away. The ball then rolled on the crossbar and then dropped to the field. However, West Virginia Wesleyan cleared the ball of the goal line to keep the game scoreless.

Huber then made the play of the game. With the Bobcats trying to dribble out of trouble, Huber used some quick feet to get a steal. After a few steps forward Huber drilled a shot to the left corner of the goal that Duncan had no chance of stopping.

Bloomsburg nearly had the game-clinching goal with a minute left when Huber lofted a great crossing pass to Jamie Vaniver (Holland/Council Rock South) nearly headed into the goal with Duncan coming up with the save.

The Huskies finished with eight shots on goal to five for the Bobcats with Huskies goalie Danielle Fiorelli (Warrington/Villa Joseph Marie) getting the win by shutout in her first collegiate start.

Bloomsburg, 1-0, will host Adelphi on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Sports Stadium.
