MANCHESTER, NH—
Brooke Simonovich (East Stroudsburg/Stroudsburg) scored three times to lead the Bloomsburg University field hockey team to a 6-1 win over St. Anselm College on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference matchup.
After a scoreless first half in which the Huskies outshot the Hawks 11-0, Bloomsburg wasted little time grabbing the lead in the second. Just 1:23 into the second period,
Jenna DiSabatino (Mountain Top/Crestwood) scored off a penalty corner to put the Huskies on top 1-0.
Bloomsburg made it 2-0 about nine minutes later when Simonovic scored off an assistant from
Jenna DiSabatino (Mountain Top/Crestwood). St. Anselm cut into the lead in the 53
rd minute when Bridget Davis scored off a Channing Hodgkins assist. The shot attempt was the first of the game for the Hawks.
Simonovich answered that goal with her second of the day with
Brittany Mathews (Reedsville/Indian Valley) getting the assist to make it 3-1 before
Cassie DiSabatino (Mountain Top/Crestwood) helped Bloomsburg stretch the margin to 4-1 with an assist to
Amber Aulenbach (Fleetwood/Oley Valley).
The Huskies closed out the day's scoring with a second goal from Jenna DiSabantino and the third of the game for Simonovich.
In all the Huksies defense limited the Hawks to just two shots on goal and three penalty corners, while getting off 26 shots of their own and being awarded 22 penalty corners.
Bloomsburg, ranked second in Division II, is now 3-0 and will host Seton Hill on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 1 p.m.
