Box Score BLOOMSBURG – The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team stayed even with Adelphi for most of Sunday's non-conference matchup. However, the Huskies were unable to overcome an Adelphi second half goal as it dropped a 1-0 decision at Sports Stadium.
The Huskies (1-1 overall) fought through some wet conditions Sunday. After a scoreless first half, the Panthers (2-0) found their opportunity and made the most of it.
Adelphi's Amanda Reverberi scored the only goal on the afternoon. In the 66th minute, Reverberi took advantage of an opening from about 25 yards out. She lofted a high shot over BU goalkeeper
Danielle Fiorelli (Warrington/Villa Joseph Marie)'s leaping attempt to give the Panthers the lead.
Bloomsburg found some life late in game that sent Adelphi back to its own goal line. In the 82nd minute, BU's
Tara Huber (Orefield/Parkland) drove a shot from the right side towards goal that bounced off the crossbar.
Katy Fexa (Allentown/Parkland) controlled the rebound and sent a following shot towards goal, but was stopped Adelphi goalkeeper Sam Whitney to neutralize the Husky attack.
Fiorelli was active in goal all afternoon for Bloomsburg. In her second career start, the sophomore controlled the front of the net and made her presence felt by Adelphi attackers. Fiorelli ended the day with six saves and has shown some great promise for Bloomsburg heading forward.
Adelphi was able to keep the ball in Husky territory for most of the game. It held a 15-3 advantage on shots and was awarded nine corner kicks to the Huskies' two.
Each team had its opportunities in the opening half. With periods of heavy rain filtered throughout, the style of play seemed to be adjusted to a much tighter game.
Despite Adelphi holding a 10-0 shot advantage in the first half, the Husky defense stepped up and was able to keep the Panthers in check.
Bloomsburg returns to action on Sept. 5 against Edinboro. Game time is set for 5 p.m., and it will mark the Huskies first away game and first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game of the season.
