Men's Soccer Team Downs Cal Saturday Night

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team scored a 3-2 win over California (PA) Saturday night to wrap up Homecoming for the Huskies.
 
Cal took the early lead in the game when Jeffrey Kyei got a breakaway and fed Gaby Deller for a goal in the 15th minute of action.
 
The Huskies got the equalizer just over three minutes later. Nate Conrad (Enola/East Pennsboro) stole a pass and got tripped to set up a free kick. Bloomsburg's Fran Miller (Doylestown/Central Bucks East) then executed a perfect shot that curved over the Cal goalie into the top left corner of the goal at the 17:28 mark.
 
The teams went back and forth for the rest of the half with Bloomsburg's goalie Bernie Roell (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) making six saves in the opening 45 minutes of action.
 
The Huskies added to their lead in the 55th minute when Nate Conrad (Enola/East Pennsboro) crossed a ball to Anthony Manero (Richboro/Council Rock North) who was pushed in the box setting up a penalty kick opportunity. Manero then beat the Cal goalie to make it 2-1.
 
Later Bloomsburg would stretch its lead to 3-1 when Miguel Diaz (Doylestown/Central Bucks East) broke down the left side and crossed a shot to the right side of the net in 61st minute. Cal trimmed the deficit when Tyler Woolum scored off a deflection in the 81st minute to make it 3-2, but would not get another shot off.
 
For the game Roell finished with 10 saves for the Huskies.
 
Bloomsburg goes to 4-8-1, 2-4-1 in the PSAC, while Cal drops to 5-6-1, 2-2-1 in the PSAC. The Huskies play at Millersville on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
