Bamford's Two Goals Lead Men's Soccer Team to Win

SHEPHARDSTOWN, WV—Mike Bamford (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) scored two goals and keeper Bernie Roell (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) made eight saves to lead the Bloomsburg University men's soccer team to a 2-1 road win over Shepherd University on Tuesday.
 
Early on in the game the Huskies had two corner kicks, but could not convert on them keeping it a scoreless game. The Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute when Bamford scored off an assist from Josh Smith (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg).
 
In the 36th minute Bloomsburg extended its lead to 2-0 when Bamford scored off an assist from Anthony Manero (Richboro/Council Rock North). The shot on goal was one of seven in the first half for the Huskies compared with six for the Rams.
 
In the second half the Rams turned up the pressure and outshot the Huskies 13-2 in the final 45 minutes. Roell stopped four shots in the first 43 minutes of the second half before the Rams Kevin Doyle scored off an assist from Drew Rose in the 84th minute to make it 2-1.
 
Down the stretch the Roell had to make two saves, including one with 25 seconds to play, to preserve the win.
 
Bloomsburg improved 7-9-1 with the win. The Huskies host East Stroudsburg on Saturday at 2:30 p.m at Sports Stadium.
