MANSFIELD—The seventh-ranked Bloomsburg University scored a 2-1 win over Mansfield University Saturday night in Mansfield. The win for the Huskies spoiled the first-ever home night field hockey game for the Mountaineers.

The game was scoreless for the first 22 minutes before the Huskies finally broke through with a goal. Nikki Gattone (Reading/Muhlenberg) fed a short pass in front of the goal to Felicia Domenici (Kunkletown/Pleasant Valley) who poked it past the Mansfield goalie for a 1-0 lead.

It stayed 1-0 until the 38th minute when Angie DeBallis deflected a shot attempt from Candice Smith (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) to make it 2-0.

Mansfield tried to get back in the game and had four penalty corner chances and four shots on goal in a two minute stretch early in the second half, but could not score. The Mountaineers finally got on the board in the 52nd minute when Jessi Swingle scored a goal. But the Huskies midfield and defense allowed no shots and just one penalty corner the remainder of the way to get the win.

Bloomsburg goalie Megan Eppley (Camp Hill/Camp Hill) stopped four shots in goal to earn the victory.

The Huskies, 5-4, 1-1 in the PSAC, host East Stroudsburg on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
