Men's Soccer Team Falls to Nationally Ranked Mercyhurst

Box Score BLOOMSBURG--The Bloomsburg men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to No. 19 Mercyhurst in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup on Saturday.

Mercyhurst would score first in the ninth minute on a shot from Fernando Martinez, who tapped the ball through the Husky defense. Five minutes later Mercyhurst would score again off a crossing pass breaking through the Husky defense.

Bloomsburg would refuse to yield though, attacking the Laker's  goal with multiple shots. Eventually the Huskies' Fran Miller (Doylestown/Central Bucks East) would break away and bury the ball in the back of Mercyhurst's goal in the 23rd minute.

Bloomsburg would have another opportunity to score in the first when Derrick Orendorff (Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown Area) just missed on a shot.
In the second half of the game Bloomsburg and Mercyhurst traded blows going shot for shot, this time neither team could put the ball in the back of the net. The Huskies best opportunity was on a scramble, where the Mercyhurst goalie ended up leaving the goal. This led to a shot by Spencer Conrad (Enola/East Pennsboro), which was blocked by a Lakers' defender keeping it a 2-1 game.

Bloomsburg goalie Bernie Roell (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) recorded nine saves on the day.

The Huskies, 3-6-1, 1-3-1 in the PSAC, stay at Sports Stadium this week to face off against West Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday at 4:00.
