Men's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision to Visiting West Va. Wesleyan

Box Score Box Score (HTML)

BLOOMSBURG – A goal from West Virginia Wesleyan in the 50th minute would be all the scoring the visiting Bobcats would need to drop the Bloomsburg men's soccer team, 1-0, Tuesday afternoon at Sports Stadium.

The Bobcats (4-4-3, 2-2-2 Mountain East Conference) capitalized off a corner kick opportunity early in the second half when Matthew Brown directed his corner to teammate Richard Sho-Silva directly in front of the net. Sho-Silva delivered, heading in the first and only goal of the contest for the deciding score.

Bloomsburg (3-7-1, 1-3-1 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) was not without its opportunities on the day. Less than a minute before the Bobcats broke through, senior Fran Miller (Doylestown/Central Bucks East) narrowly missed a goal when his header attempt slipped just wide. Anthony Manero (Richboro/Council Rock North) created a strong scoring chance in the waning moments, but his shot in the 86th minute was turned away by Bobcat keeper Derek Ayers to end the threat.

Huskies keeper Bernie Roell (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) picked up the tough luck loss after an impressive showing in net, making nine saves including several diving stops on strong Bobcat chances.

Miller finished with five shot attempts to lead the Husky attack.

Ayers registered six saves to earn the victory in net for West Virginia Wesleyan.

The Huskies return to action on Friday evening at Sports Stadium when they host Slippery Rock in PSAC action as part of Homecoming Weekend. That contest is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
