First Place on the Line as Women’s Basketball Takes On Shippensburg

 
BLOOMSBURG – Things couldn't be tighter atop the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division standings. With three teams currently vying for the top seed in the East and the advantage of potential hosting the PSAC Final Four, the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team will look for a monumental victory on the road Wednesday night against a fellow top-ranked team in Shippensburg University.
 
The Huskies (16-5, 12-5 PSAC) take on the Raiders (16-6, 12-5) on Wednesday, Feb. 13 inside Heiges Field House in a PSAC East first place showdown. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
 
The game will be broadcast live on WHLM (930-AM) based out of Bloomsburg with Larry White calling all the action. In addition, listeners throughout the world can listen to the game live on BU's website at www.buhuskies.com. The pre-game show will begin 20 minutes before tipoff.
 
MATCH UP: The Huskies are coming off a win over Cheyney, and stand in a first place tie in the East with Shippensburg and Millersville. The Huskies have won the last five games against the Raiders and have not lost to Shippensburg since the 2010-11 season at Nelson Field House (69-66). BU has not lost at Heiges Field House since the 2009-10 season (80-44). Shippensburg is currently riding a seven-game winning streak and has not lost since last playing Bloomsburg on Jan. 16, 70-40.
 
DEFENSIVE DOMINANCE: Bloomsburg leads the PSAC and ranks 14th in Division II in defensive field goal percentage (.343), and is third in the PSAC in scoring defense (58.4).
 
SHARE THE WEALTH: BU leads the PSAC and is 10th in Division II with 17.33 assists per game. BU is assisting on 63.97 percent of its total field goals, and has had 10 or more assists in 52 of its last 53 games.
 
WHEELIN' AND DEALIN': Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) is second in the PSAC in scor­ing (15.1), third in three-point percentage (.374), free throw percentage (.839), and is sixth in steals (2.4).
 
HIGH SCORING OFFENSE: Bloomsburg leads the PSAC in scoring at 76.7 points per game, and is on pace to break the school-record of 73.4 set last season.
 
MAKE THE EASY ONES: The Huskies lead the PSAC and are seventh in Division II in free throw shooting at 76.3 percent. Bloomsburg opponents have made more free throws than against any other PSAC team (363).
 
THIS IS HER HOUSE: Lauren Ellis (Bangor/Bangor) ranks fifth in BU history in blocks with 98. Ellis had a career-high five rejections against Mercyhurst. This sea­son, Ellis is fifth in the PSAC, averaging 1.5 rejections per game. Ellis had a streak of eight consecutive games with a block earlier this season.
 
After its game against Shippensburg, Bloomsburg remains on the road to take West Chester on Saturday, Feb. 16 beginning at 1 p.m.
