Seniors Power Women's Basketball Team to Win

BLOOMSBURG--The four senior members of the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team celebrated Senior Day by combining for 41 points in a 75-53 victory over Kutztown University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at the Nelson Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.
 
Seniors Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland/Hazleton Area) and Lauren Ellis (Bangor/Bangor) scored six of the Huskies first eight points giving them an 8-0 advantage just two minutes into the game.
 
The Golden Bears rallied and went on a 9-0 run taking their only lead of the game at the 15:42 mark, 9-8. But senior Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty)'s layup put the Huskies back on top for good, 10-9.
 
Later in the half the Huskies took their first double-digit lead of the game, 21-11, when Brianna Dudeck (Sugarloaf/Hazleton) grabbed a rebound and was able to finish with a layup with 12:12 remaining.
 
Senior Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland/Tri-Valley) grabbed one of her five steals and converted a three-pointer with 10 minutes left in the half putting the Huskies on top, 29-13. The Huskies, who shot 57 percent from the field in the first half, continued to build on their lead taking a 21-point advantage off a pair of free throws from Dudeck with 2:32 left in the first half that capped a 10-2 run for Bloomsburg. Oxenrider wrapped up the scoring for the first period when she sank a jumper making it 43-26 at the break.
 
Danielle Derr (Dresner/Upper Dublin) began the second half by hitting a jumper from the paint 15 seconds into the second period putting the Huskies on top by 19. Wieller then scored on back-to-back plays with a layup and a three-pointer giving the Huskies a 22-point advantage at 50-28.
 
Bloomsburg continued to build upon its lead opening a 29-point advantage on two occasions in the final six minutes of action. The last time came on pair of free throws from Catherine Noack (Bethlehem/Liberty) that made it a 71-42 game before the Huskies settled for a 75-53 win.
 
Flanagan, the senior captain, led the way for the Huskies with her season-high 15 points, while also dishing out five assists. Oxenrider added 14 points, while grabbing seven boards and also recording five assists. Derr also hit double-digits with 12 points, while Wieller scored seven and Ellis five for Bloomsburg.
 
Kutztown (14-11, 12-9 PSAC) got 15 points from Tanejha Smith, while Advia Campbell scored 12 and Alyssa Boneberger added 11.
 
The Huskies (20-5, 16-5 PSAC) will travel to East Stroudsburg Wednesday for their final game of the regular season with a 6 p.m. start time.
