-- The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team will host Kutztown University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) tournament quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Nelson Field House.
The Huskies finished the regular season first in the PSAC East with a 17-5 conference record and a 21-5 overall record. The Huskies enter PSAC tournament play in the midst of a season-high six-game winning streak. They are outscoring their opponents by an average of 20 points per game during the streak.
Tickets for the game Tuesday will be $7.00 for adults, $2.00 for students and free for any PSAC student with ID.
As a team, Bloomsburg leads the conference in scoring at 75.5 points per game and is second in scoring defense allowing 57.7 points per game. Opponents shoot just .338 against the Huskies on the season, the lowest mark in the PSAC.
Individually,
Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) is first on the team and fourth in the conference in scoring at 15.0 points per game. Wieller also sits at third in the PSAC in three point percentage at .354 and second in free throw percentage at .839.
On the defensive end,
Lauren Ellis (Bangor/Bangor) is fifth in the PSAC in blocks per game with 1.5, while Wieller is top-10 in steals per game with 2.3.
Ellis is second on the team in scoring at 10.4 points per game and is the team's best rebounder at 7.5 per game.
Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland/Tri-Valley) is third in scoring at 10.2 per game, followed by
Catherine Noack (Bethlehem/Liberty) at 9.6.
Noack is second on the team in three pointers made with 44 and three point percentage at .355.
Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland/Hazleton Area) is the team-leader in assists at 3.7 per game on the year. Flanagan is also second on the team in steals per game at 2.0 and has four more steals than she does turnovers on the season.
Kutztown advanced to the quarterfinals with an 83-72 win over West Chester in the opening round on Saturday. The Golden Bears went 13-9 in the PSAC East in the regular season placing fourth in the division.
On the season, Kutztown is fourth in the conference in shooting at .411 and fifth in free throw shooting at .710.
Individually, Ashley Wood leads the team in scoring and is sixth in the PSAC at 14.3 points per game. The team's best rebounder is Alyssa Bonenberger. Her
8.6 rebounds per game are good for fifth in the conference.
Natalya Lee is second on the team in scoring at 10.6 points per game, followed by Bonenberger at 10.1. Lee also averages 4.8 boards per game on the year. Advia Campbell is fourth on the team at 8.7 points per game and second in rebounding at 7.2.
The Huskies took on Kutztown twice this season, winning both matchups. On Feb. 2, Bloomsburg defeated the Golden Bears by a score of 79-68 led by a 31-point effort by Wieller who hit seven threes in the game and hit all six of her attempts from the foul line. Oxenrider and
Danielle Derr (Dresner/Upper Dublin) each scored 14 points for Bloomsburg, while grabbing seven and eight rebounds, respectively. Noack rounded out the team's top scorers with 12 points.
For Kutztown, Wood scored 23 points, while Avery Hodgson added 11 and five rebounds.
Bloomsburg forced 26 turnovers in the game and outrebounded Kutztown by 15.
The teams played again on Feb. 23 with the Huskies coming out on top, 75-53. Flanagan went 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and scored a team-high 15 points with five assists to lead Bloomsburg. Oxenrider scored 14 points and grabbed seven boards, while Derr finished with 12 and five.
For the Golden Bears, Tanejha Smith scored a team-high 15 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Campbell scored 12 and hauled in five boards, and Bonenberger contributed 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
With a win, the Huskies would host the PSAC Final Four on Friday and Saturday, March 8-9.
