BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Bloomsburg's pitching was firing on all cylinders against visiting Goldey-Beacom. Cait Paine (Lebanon/Lebanon) set Bloomsburg's all-time strikeout leader and pitched a no-hitter in a 2-0 win in game one and Mandi Black (Huntington Mills/Northwest Area) came within one out of a no-hitter herself as the Huskies won 4-0 in the nightcap.

Paine entered the game needing three strikeouts to set the school record and took care of it in the first inning, striking out the side to reach the magic number of 680, surpassing Ashley Lynn (2005-08).  She finished the game with 13 punch outs to run her career total to 690.

The no-hitter was the third of Paine's career and second of the season after she hurled a perfect game against Bowie State on March 3.  It was also the first time in program history that Goldey-Beacom was no-hit in a game that went a full seven innings in its program history.

Paine did not walk any batters in the game, but two Lightning players reached via error.  One was erased on a double play as the senior faced just 22 hitters, one over the minimum.  Only twice did a GBC hitter hit a ball that even left the infield – a flyball to center in the fourth and a flyout to right in the sixth.

In the third inning, BU scored what proved to be the winning run.  Goldey-Beacom misplayed a single by Hannah Moir (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape ) allowing Erika Yanora (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) to score all the way from first.

Black, who went on to win game two in the circle, hit her second homer of the season to left for a 2-0 lead that was more than enough for run support for Paine.

Moir had two hits for Bloomsburg and Black walked in addition to her homer.

Ashley Antosh took the loss.  She allowed two runs on five hits and struck out four for GBC.

Black struck out a dozen in game two and did not allow a hit until Alexa Houston singled down the line in left with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

The Huskies started the scoring with single runs in the second and third.  Lea Rehm (Bloomsburg/Bloomsburg) singled in Yanora for a 1-0 lead in the second and Moir added an RBI single in the third for a two-run lead.

Meanwhile, Black dominated the Lightning, striking out eight of the first nine batters she faced and setting the Lightning lineup down in order the first time through.

Bloomsburg doubled its lead in the fourth when Moir singled in Rachel Fredell (Dingmans Ferry/Delaware Valley) and Kayla McHale (Dillsburg/Northern) for a 4-0 lead.

Moir went 2-for-2 in the game with three runs batted and also successfully executed two sacrifice bunts.  Yanora turned in a three-hit effort in game two, while McHale had a pair of hits.

The shutout was the first of Black's career and her 12 strikeouts were just four shy of her season total entering the day.

Courtney Dolson took the loss for Goldey-Beacom, surrendering eight hits and four runs in six innings.

The Huskies look to stay in the win column when they travel to Indiana (Pa.) on Thursday, April 18 for a doubleheader slated for 2:30 p.m.
