BLOOMSBURG—Mandi Black (Huntington Mills/Northwest Area) pitched a one-hitter and went 3-3 with three RBI to lead the Bloomsburg University softball team to a 10-1, six inning win and a sweep of its doubleheader with Clarion University on Friday.  The Huskies won the opener 10-0 in five innings.

In game two the Huskies offense picked up where it left off in game one. In the second inning the Huskies Lea Rehm (Bloomsburg/Bloomsburg) singled to lead off the inning and moved to second on a bunt. Black then singled home Rehm to make it a 1-0 game. Raychelle Kuhns (Williamsport/Loyalsock) then homered to deep center field to make it 3-0.

In the third the Huskies made it 4-0 when Fredell singled and came around to score on a double by Rehm. In the fourth inning Bloomsburg added three more runs to make it a 7-0 game. Leann Bell (Lanse/West Branch) singled to open the inning with Black following with a long home run to center. Following a ground out, Mandi Baer (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) singled and went to second on a ground ball. Baer then came around to score on a single by Fredell.

Meantime Black was cruising in the circle working out of minor jams in the first and second inning when a Clarion runner reached second base. In the third and fourth innings Black went three-up and three-down to take a no-hitter to the fifth inning.

In the fifth though Christina Tressler led off the inning with a long homer to center breaking up both the no-hitter and the shutout. Clarion would later get a runner on via a walk and a hit-by-pitch, but Black got a pop out to end the threat.

In the bottom of the fifth the Huskies added a bases loaded ground out by Kuhns to make it 8-1, then won the game in the sixth. Hannah Moir (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape ) led off the sixth getting hit by a pitch with Fredell following with a homer to left to win the game on the mercy rule.

Black finished the one-hitter with four strikeouts and two walks along with her 3-3 at the plate and two runs scored.

In game one, Cait Paine (Lebanon/Lebanon) allowed just two hits in leading the Huskies to a 10-0 win in five innings. Offensively the Huskies got Paine all the runs she would need in the first inning.

Baer led off the game with a triple with Kayla McHale (Dillsburg/Northern) reaching via the bunt to put runners at the corner. Fredell singled to right center scoring Baer. Belko then delivered a three-run homer to center for a 4-0 lead. After a ground out, Rehm reached on a three-base error and scored on Bell's single.

The Huskies tacked on two runs in the second with Belko getting an RBI double and Rehm a sac fly RBI. Bloomsburg closed out the scoring in the third with Erica Keen (Gordonville/Bishop Shanahan) coming off the bench to get an RBI double, while Belko drove in her fifth run of the game on a single. The Huskies other run of the inning came on an error.

Paine finished with nine strikeouts and no walks and at one point had retired 12 straight after giving up a leadoff double.

The Huskies improved to 26-14, 10-4 in the PSAC Central, while Clarion falls to 4-26, 0-16 in the PSAC Central.
