STORYLINE
The Bloomsburg University field hockey team travels to Louisville, Kentucky, this weekend for a pair of games at Bellarmine University. The Huskies will play host Bellarmine on Saturday at 12 noon before taking on Lindenwood on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. Bloomsburg will seek its first victory after an 0-2 start to the season.
LAST TIME OUT
Bloomsburg traveled to East Stroudsburg on Wednesday and suffered a 4-2 defeat to the Warriors. The two teams fought to a scoreless tie in the first half before ESU's Ally Roth put the Warriors on the board 39 minutes in. BU's
Brittany Mathews (Reedsville/Indian Valley) scored her first goal of the season to tie the game, but ESU answered with another quick goal from Roth just over a minute later. ESU took a two-goal lead at 52:34 before
Candice Smith (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) brought the Huskies back within one goal at 62:04. ESU finished the scoring on a goal from Gabrielle Seibert with less than five minutes to play.
Megan Eppley (Camp Hill/Camp Hill) had three saves for the Huskies in net.
SCOUTING BELLARMINE
Bellarmine enters this weekend's play at 1-1 on the season. The Knights opened their schedule with a 5-1 victory over Mercy College last Friday. The Knights then dropped a 4-1 decision at Kutztown the next day. Alexis VanWallaghen leads the Knights with two goals.
SCOUTING LINDENWOOD
Lindenwood opened its season at 0-2 after losing 7-0 at Millersville and 8-3 at West Chester. Kristi O'Connor leads the Lions with two of Lindenwood's three goals on the year.
BU POINTS LEADERS
Juniors
Felicia Domenici (Kunkletown/Pleasant Valley) and
Candice Smith (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) lead the Huskies with four points apiece through the season's first two games. Smith tallied her first goal for the Huskies on Wednesday in BU's 4-2 loss at East Stroudsburg. Domenici scored a pair of goals in the season-opener vs. Stonehill last Saturday, which was her first multi-goal game for the Huskies.
NON-CONFERENCE SLATE CONTINUES
The Huskies play two non-conference opponents this weekend in Bellarmine and Lindenwood as their non-conference schedule continues. Although Bloomsburg played East Stroudsburg, another PSAC opponent, on Wednesday, that game did not count toward the conference standings. The PSAC adopted a new division format for the 2013 season – the East-West divisional format has been scrapped leaving one division for all PSAC field hockey teams. With the new divisional alignment, no games against PSAC opponents scheduled prior to Sept. 28 will count toward the conference standings.
UP NEXT
Bloomsburg will remain on the road, traveling to Slippery Rock on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 4:00 p.m.
