Field Hockey Team Downs Lindenwood on Sunday

LOUISVILLE, KY—The Bloomsburg University field hockey team concluded its trip to the Bluegrass State with a 5-0 win over Lindenwood on Sunday.
 
Bloomsburg jumped out to an early lead when Brittany Mathews (Reedsville/Indian Valley) scored on a Stephanie Halsted (Fairfax Station, VA/South County) assist in the game's seventh minute. About eight minutes later Mathews made a pass to the right of the goal to Felicia Domenici (Kunkletown/Pleasant Valley) who hit the back of the cage to make it 2-0.
 
Early in the second half the Huskies took advantage of a penalty corner to make it 3-0. Nikki Black (Huntington Mills/Northwest Area) fed Candice Smith (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) on the play who scored in the fourth minute of the second period.
 
The Huskies closed out the scoring with Sam Peters (Yeagerstown/Mifflin County) getting a goal in the 59th minute, while Nikki Gattone (Reading/Muhlenberg) scored from Black's second assist to make the final 5-0.
 
In goal the Huskies Megan Eppley (Camp Hill/Camp Hill) stopped four shots in over 61 minutes of work, while Lindsay Cassel (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin) played the final eight and a half minutes.
 
As a team the Huskies held the edge in shot (16-7) and penalty corners (7-6).
 
Bloomsburg, 2-2, will play at Slippery Rock on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
