BLOOMSBURG – Two first half goals turned out to be all the scoring the Bloomsburg University men's soccer team would need to knock off visiting Chestnut Hill, 2-0, in non-conference action at Sports Stadium Wednesday night.

The Huskies (3-2) got on the board in the early going on the first career goal from freshman Derrick Orendorff (Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown Area) during the ninth minute. Fran Miller (Doylestown/Central Bucks East) set up the score by pushing the ball deep into Chestnut Hill territory, allowing Anthony Manero (Richboro/Council Rock North) to direct a cross field pass to Orendorff who would do the rest, tipping in a shot past the Griffins' keeper for the first goal of the contest.

Derrick Orendorff
Bloomsburg struck again in the 23rd minute to give itself some breathing room. Miller tallied his second goal of the season when his initial shot was saved by Griffin keeper Travis Powers, but the senior forward grabbed his own rebound and was able to finish for the goal.

The hosts dominated the first half, spending the majority of the stanza in the Chestnut Hill zone and ultimately leading in shots by a 7-2 margin. The Griffins tightened the contest in the second half with the Huskies finishing the game holding a 14-13 edge in shots.

Early scoring was enough for Huskies' keeper Bernie Roell (Douglassville/Daniel Boone), however. Roell turned away eight shots to preserve the shutout, moving into second place by himself in the Huskies' record books with 12 shutouts during his BU career. The all-time record is held by Keith Cincotta, who posted 18.5 shutouts from 1987-90.

The loss drops Chestnut Hill to 2-3 on the season. Powers made seven saves in goal for the Griffins and Juan Amaya led the team with four shots.

The Huskies return to PSAC play when they hit the road for a Saturday afternoon contest at West Chester. That match is scheduled for a 12 noon start.
