BLOOMSBURG – Four Huskies scored in double figures as part of an 84-53 victory for the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team over visiting Mansfield on Wednesday night at Nelson Field House.
The victory extends the Huskies winning streak to seven straight games as they improve to 14-3 overall and 5-2 in PSAC East play. Mansfield falls to 0-18, 0-8.
Reigning PSAC East Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week
Jocelyn Ford (Lansing, NY/Lansing) led the way offensively, finishing with 18 points to go along with six rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Erica Maciejewski (Red Lion/Red Lion) added 11 points off the bench while
Brianna Dudeck (Sugarloaf/Hazleton) and
Adreana Sadowski (Fleetwood/Brandywine Heights) each pitched in with 10 points respectively.
Bloomsburg held the Mountaineers without a field goal through the first 10:38 of game time, stretching a lead of 16-2 before Mansfield finally sank a shot from the floor. Mansfield would close the gap to single digits at 21-13 with an 11-4 run capped on a jumper by Megan McSwain, but Maciejewski responded with a jumper on the other end and the Huskies would never again lead by less than 10 points.
The Huskies finished the half on a 17-8 break and took a 40-21 lead into intermission following a coast-to-coast run and basket from
Catherine Noack (Bethlehem/Liberty) before the buzzer.
Freshman
Morgan Klunk (Felton/York Catholic) hit an early 3-pointer following the break to stretch the lead to 20 (43-23). The Mountaineers biggest threat would come after closing the gap to 45-30 at the 15:39 mark. From there, Dudeck delivered a 3-pointer followed by another layup from Maciejewski to push the lead to 20 once more. Bloomsburg's lead was at or near 30 for the final five minutes of play.
Bloomsburg finished with nine 3-point baskets, including a pair beyond the arc from sophomore
Nicole Southcott (Downingtown/Coatesville) who had a career-best six points.
Jena Matter paced Mansfield, finishing with 14 points.
The Mountaineers were doomed by 25 turnovers which resulted in 36 points of offense for the Huskies, who only committed 12 turnovers on the night. Bloomsburg held a 36-34 edge in rebounding and finished the night shooting 45.3 percent (29-for-64) from the floor while Mansfield mustered 38.3 percent (18-47).
Next up is a trip to Kutztown as the Huskies take on the Golden Bears Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. Bloomsburg will play back-to-back road games for the final time this year, traveling to Millersville as well next Wednesday before returning home on Saturday, Feb. 1 vs. Lock Haven.
