BLOOMSBURG –
Adreana Sadowski (Fleetwood/Brandywine Heights) poured in a career-high 30 points and the Bloomsburg women's basketball team shot over 54 percent from the floor en route to a 90-64 victory over Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday afternoon at Nelson Field House.
The Huskies improve to 9-3 overall on the year while UPJ slumps to 5-8.
The score remained tight throughout the majority of the first half with UPJ taking an early seven point lead at 15-8 just over seven minutes in. Bloomsburg rattled off the next seven points for the tie and the two teams stayed within three points of each other until the 7:13 mark in the first half. Then the Huskies embarked on a 14-5 run led by Sadowski to race out to a double digit lead. Bloomsburg ultimately took a 47-38 advantage into the break thanks to 16 first half points from Sadowski and 10 from teammate
Jocelyn Ford (Lansing, NY/Lansing).
Bloomsburg stretched its edge to 15 points during the first three minutes of the second half, but the Lady Cats closed the lead to nine at 59-50 following a layup from Nicole Carman with 14:40 remaining.
The Huskies quickly erased any doubt, however, by sprinting to a 14-0 run over the next 4:34 to put the score at 73-50. The Lady Cats would not get any closer than 17 points the rest of the way.
Bloomsburg stifled the Pitt-Johnstown offensive attack, which entered the weekend averaging over 80 points per game, by forcing 30 turnovers which resulted in 32 points for the Huskies.
Sadowski directed a dominating performance inside for Bloomsburg as well with the Huskies posting a whopping 62 points in the paint. The redshirt sophomore connected on 14 of 23 field goal attempts and also registered six rebounds, three blocks, two steals and an assist in 29 minutes of action.
In all, four Huskies worked into double figure scoring. Ford also matched a career-high with 16 points and handed out a team-high seven assists with five rebounds and five steals in an all-around effort.
Catherine Noack (Bethlehem/Liberty) netted 14 points on six of seven shooting from the field with four assists and six boards while
Brianna Dudeck (Sugarloaf/Hazleton) tallied 10 points.
Bloomsburg shot 54.2 percent (39-for-72) from the floor while holding UPJ to just 37.5 percent (21-56). Eleven Huskies worked into the scoring a day after 12 Bloomsburg players did so in a victory over Clarion on Friday.
Carman had 17 points to lead UPJ and Leah Hansen added 13.
The Huskies have one more PSAC crossover game remaining on the schedule, traveling to Indiana (PA) on Wednesday evening.
GAME NOTES: The Huskies notched season highs for points in the paint (62) and field goals made (39) … Bloomsburg registered 25 assists, adding to their PSAC-leading total of over 19 per game on the season … The Huskies had 15 steals, led by Ford's five … Bloomsburg is now 4-1 in PSAC crossover play … Sadowski surpassed her previous career-high of 25 points set vs. Millersville earlier this year while Ford equaled the 16 points she scored at Shippensburg last month … Noack continued to close on 1,000 points and now has 975 during her BU career.
