MANSFIELD, Pa. – Redshirt sophomore
Megan Carroll (Middletown/Middletown Area) gave the Bloomsburg University women's soccer team all the scoring it needed with her goal during the 72nd minute to send the Huskies to a 1-0 victory over host Mansfield on Saturday night.
With the win the Huskies improve to 5-6-1 overall on the year and 4-6-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play. Conversely, Mansfield slips to 2-9-1 both overall and in conference play.
Bloomsburg controlled the first period, holding a 6-2 edge in shots, but would have to wait until late in the second half to finally have something to show for it.
The scoring play began when the Huskies were awarded a corner kick opportunity.
Taylor Gerstenfield (Warminster/William Tennent) took the corner and perfectly set up Carroll in front, finding her teammate just three yards out and Carroll was able to do the rest, picking up Gerstenfield's corner and depositing it past the Mountaineers keeper for the lead.
One goal was enough for the Huskies defense and goalkeeper
Megan Deak (West Islip, NY/West Islip). Deak earned the shutout win, her fifth shutout of the season, with four saves in net.
The Huskies held a 14-8 edge in shots and were awarded three corner kicks to Mansfield's none.
Bloomsburg's attack forced Mansfield keeper Alana Greenawalt to make six saves for the Mountaineers.
Chrissy Hollan (Laurys Station/Parkland) applied pressure throughout the night for Bloomsburg, attempting four shots while Carroll fired three shots.
Bloomsburg returns to action on Friday, making the trip to Slippery Rock as PSAC play continues.
