Late Goals Push California (PA) Past Huskies Women's Soccer, 2-1

Box Score (HTML)

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – A pair of late second half goals broke open an even match and allowed California (PA) come away with a 2-1 victory over the Bloomsburg University women's soccer team Saturday afternoon at the Phillipsburg Complex.

Bloomsburg (6-7-1, 5-7-1 PSAC), fresh off a road victory over No. 24 Slippery Rock less than 24 hours earlier, controlled the first period of play by firing off six shots while limiting Cal to just one.

Unfortunately for the Huskies, none of those shots found the back of the net and the teams took a scoreless deadlock into intermission.

The sides remained knotted until the 78th minute when the hosts finally broke through. Chelsea Crockett put the Vulcans on the board with a header goal, her 10th tally of the season, off a corner kick by Erin Hogan.

Cal added insurance in the 82nd minute when Janelle McCann registered her eighth goal of the year with a shot just inside the 18-yard box.

Bloomsburg got on the board in the 88th minute when Chrissy Hollan (Laurys Station/Parkland) gathered a pass into the box from Rachel Yenney (Collegeville/Perkiomen Valley) and beat the Vulcans keeper to give the Huskies life.

Time would run out on the Huskies, though, sending BU home with a setback against one of the region's top teams despite holding a 10-7 advantage in shots for the match.

Cal improves to 10-2-2 overall and 9-2-1 in the PSAC with the victory.

Megan Deak (West Islip, NY/West Islip) made four saves in net for the Huskies while Meghan Jaynes picked up the win with five saves for the Vulcans.

Ashley Sanchez (Lyndhurst/DePaul Catholic) finished with four shots, three on net, for the Huskies while Hollan fired three shots, all on goal.

Bloomsburg returns home for its regular season finale and will honor its senior class on Wednesday at 7 p.m. inside Steph Pettit Stadium vs. Millersville.
