Men's Soccer Team Keeps Rolling

BOX SCORE (HTML)

SHIPPENSBURG—The 25th-ranked Bloomsburg University men's soccer team needed extra time, but pulled out a 2-1 overtime victory over Shippensburg University on Saturday in PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) action.

The Huskies threatened early in the game when Austin Transue (Langhorne/Neshaminy) got off two shots and Bret Milden one. But each time Shippensburg goalie Evan Raimist made saves for the Raiders.

Bloomsburg did get on the board when Matt Zima (Newtown/Council Rock North) scored his fourth goal of the season on a shot from 30 yards out on a pass from Mike Bamford (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) in the game's 23rd minute.

Shippensburg would mount an offensive threat later in the half with the Huskies' goalie Jared Ott (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) making three saves to keep it a 1-0 game at the break.

In the second half the Raiders finally got on the board when Fred Lucas came down the right side and hit the back of the net at the 73:00 minute mark. From there the game stayed scoreless for the remaining 27 minutes of play forcing overtime.

In the extra session the Huskies wasted little time grabbing control of the field. Just 20 seconds into the period Nick Izzo (Frankford, DE/Indian River) took a shot that went wide. Shippensburg then came back with a shot in the 93rd minute that was blocked before Austin Transue (Langhorne/Neshaminy) put the gamewinner in the net with Bamford getting his second assist.

Goalie Jared Ott (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) finished with four saves to earn his 10th win of the season.

The win was the fourth straight for the Huskies and their second overtime win of the year in three games. The Huskies improved to 10-4 on the year, 8-2 in the PSAC. Shippensburg falls to 5-8-2, 3-6 in the PSAC. Bloomsburg visits Washington Adventist on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
