@GoBUHuskiesSCOUTING EDINBOROThe Fighting Scots brought high expectations into the 2014-15 season after reaching the Elite Eight last season and taking a No. 6 national preseason ranking. Picked as the favorites in the PSAC West following their third PSAC title in four years last season, the Fighting Scots return four starters from last year's team. Missing from the equation in the first four games of the season, however, as been All-America guard Valerie Majewski who has been out with an undisclosed injury. Majewski led the team in scoring with 16.0 points per game as well as a team-high 66 steals along with 138 rebounds and 134 assists last season. Junior Lauren Hippo finished second to Bloomsburg's
Catherine Noack (Bethlehem/Liberty) in 3-point shooting percentage among PSAC players (48.9%).
Edinboro started the year 3-0 with wins over Chowan (75-59), Virginia-Wise (78-65) and Seton Hill (68-57) before suffering a surprising 76-48 setback at the hands of California (PA) in its home opener last Saturday. The Scots trailed 40-14 at halftime and shot just 32 percent from the floor, turning the ball over an uncharacteristic 23 times.
Senior guard Hope Mancini leads the team in scoring thus far at 15.8 ppg, while returning All-PSAC West picks Laurel Lindsay (13.3 ppg) and Aignee Freeland (11.3 ppg) also add strong scoring threats. Freeland has the ability to dominate inside, adding 9.0 rebounds per night on the young season.
THE BLOOMSBURG-EDINBORO SERIES
Edinboro leads 14-11The series has been an exciting one in recent years with multiple post-season meetings. Edinboro swept a pair of games during the 2011-12 season, including a win in the PSAC Championship Game, 74-58 at Edinboro's McComb Fieldhouse. The Huskies then won the next three meetings between the teams, including two at home in 2012-13 - an 84-59 regular season win and then a 76-73 victory in the PSAC semifinals on the way to their own conference championship. Bloomsburg then scored an 84-71 road victory last December before the teams met again in the Regional Championship Game. Bloomsburg led by 11 in the second half before the Scots chipped away, taking the lead for good on a 3-pointer from Lauren Hippo with 2:24 to play as part of an 82-76 victory.
