Domenici Scores Three Goals on Senior Day

Box Score BOX SCORE (HTML)

BLOOMSBURG—Felicia Domenici (Kunkletown/Pleasant Valley) scored three goals in her final collegiate game to lift the Bloomsburg University field hockey team to a 6-2 win over Mercyhurst University on Saturday at Steph Pettit Stadium.

On a day in which the Huskies four seniors, Domenici, Candice Smith (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove), Courtney Berger (Lehighton/Lehighton) and Nikki Black (Huntington Mills/Northwest Area), were honored before the game, each one of them had at least one point offensively in the contest to go out on a winning note.

Mercyhurst, needing a win to make the PSAC playoffs, jumped out early in the game scoring in the 10th minute with Blair Pembleton hitting the back of the cage. The Huskies wasted little time knotting the game at 1-1 needing just 26 seconds to get the equalizer. Stephanie Halsted (Fairfax Station, VA/South County) dribbled into the circle and fed Domenici who got around the goalie and tapped it in for the score.

The Lakers came right back and regained the lead in the 14th minute with Marissa Faso scoring after taking a nice pass from Pembleton in front of the cage. But again the lead was short-lived as the Huskies were able to tie the score with the combo of Halsted to Domenici striking for a second time. Halsted again fed a wide-open Domenici in front of the goal for the easy tap in.

The Huskies finally took the lead for good when Nikki Black (Huntington Mills/Northwest Area) took the ball into the circle and delivered a pass to Samantha Peters for the tap in giving Bloomsburg a 3-1 lead at the break.

In the second half Domenici scored her third goal, this one unassisted to make it a 4-1 game. Smith then got into the scoring act getting a goal in the 50th minute of play with Nikki Gattone (Reading/Muhlenberg) getting the assist. The scoring for the season ended with Berger netting her first goal of the season with Smith getting the assist.

Bloomsburg had the edge for the game in shots (14-9) and penalty corners (12-7).

The Huskies end the season with a record of 7-10, 5-9 in the PSAC.
