SALEM, VA—The Bloomsburg University softball team split a pair of games on Saturday on day one of its spring break schedule. The Huskies beat the University of Charleston (WV), 10-8, and fell to West Virginia Wesleyan, 7-5. The games are being played at the James Moyer Complex in Salem, Va.

In the opener the Huskies trailed 2-0 going to the fifth inning. In the fifth Bloomsburg scored two unearned runs with
Lea Rehm (Bloomsburg/Bloomsburg) and
Sarah Bertoni (Nanticoke/Greater Nanticoke Area) coming around.
Â
Charleston regained the lead in the bottom of the frame scoring four times to go back on top 6-2.

In the top of the sixth,
Rachel Fredell (Dingmans Ferry/Delaware Valley),
Chrissy Belko (Old Forge/Old Forge) and
Hannah Moir (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape ) all singled to load the bases with one out. Bertoni then followed with a grand slam, her first home run as a member of the Huskies after transferring from Millersville. The blast tied the score at 6-6.

After a Charleston pitching change Rehm singled.
Mandi Baer (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) then delivered a two-run homer to make it an 8-6 game. Charleston, though, rallied and tied the score at 8-8 with a pair of runs in the sixth.

In the top of the seventh,
Taylor Parker (Dewart/Warrior Run) led off the inning with a homer putting the Huskies back on top 9-8. Belko then followed with a solo homer giving the Huskies to a two-run advantage.

In the bottom of the seventh Charleston put runners at first and second with one out, but Parker worked out of the jam getting a fielder's choice and a ground out to earn the win.

Bertoni went 2-4 with four RBI to lead the offense. Belko, Moir and Rehm all had two hits as well as Bloomsburg banged out 12 for the game.

In game two, Bloomsburg grabbed the early lead on West Virginia Wesleyan going up 2-0 in the top of the first. Parker drove in Baer with the first run on a sacrifice fly, while
Kayla McHale (Dillsburg/Northern) scored on
Erika Yanora (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock)'s sac fly.

The Bobcats cut the deficit in half with a run in the bottom of the first. The Huskies, though, got the run back in the top of the second with Belko doubling to lead off the frame and moving to third on Rehm's single. Belko then scored on
Holly Peacock (Williamsport/Jersey Shore)'s sac fly to make it 3-1.

The Bobcats tied the score with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third and then took the lead for good with four runs in the fourth.

Bloomsburg got two of the runs back in the sixth. With one out and
Hannah Moir (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape ) on first, Belko homered to make it 7-5.

The Huskies did threaten in the top of the seventh getting two runners on base, but the Bobcats got a fly out to end the game.

Belko led the offense going 2-3 with two RBI.

The Huskies, 2-2, will face Ohio Valley and West Virginia State on Sunday.
