Softball Team Sweeps Pair of Games from East Stroudsburg

Chrissy Belko Doubled, Tripled and Homered in the Sweep of ESU

BRISTOL, TN—Sarah Bertoni (Nanticoke/Greater Nanticoke Area) was both a hitting and pitching star in leading the Bloomsburg University softball team to a sweep of it Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division opener against East Stroudsburg by scores of 8-0 and 8-3. The games were played in Bristol, TN at King University at the tail end of each school's spring break week.
 
In game one Bertoni, a transfer from Millersville, went 3-4 and scored four runs and drove in one, while in game two Bertoni went the distance in the circle and allowing just three runs, while striking out five to get the win.
 
In the opener the Huskies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first when Chrissy Belko (Old Forge/Old Forge) tripled home Erika Yanora (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) and Bertoni. Bloomsburg made it 3-0 in the third when Bertoni singled and, after advancing to third base, scored on Kayla McHale (Dillsburg/Northern)'s sacrifice fly.
 
Bertoni hit a solo homer leading off the bottom of the fifth to make it 4-0 before the Huskies closed out the win with four runs in the sixth to win on the mercy rule. Yanora had the big blast in the inning hitting a three-run homer.
 
Taylor Parker (Dewart/Warrior Run) earned the win giving up just two hits, walking one and striking out five.
 
In the game two the Warriors went up 2-0 in the top of the first inning before the Huskies came back and tied the score on a two-run single by Parker in the bottom of the inning.
 
Bloomsburg went on top 4-2 in the bottom of the third inning when Belko and Parker both walked with one out. McHale then delivered an RBI single scoring Belko for a 3-0 lead. After Parker was erased on fielder's choice, Hannah Moir (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape ) singled home McHale with the fourth run.
 
In the fourth Belko hit a two-run homer to make it 6-2 before Mandi Baer (Douglassville/Daniel Boone)'s two-out double brought home the Huskies final two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
 
McHale finished game two 3-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
 
With the sweep the Huskies go to 9-4, 2-0 in the PSAC East. Bloomsburg plays at Wilmington (De.) on Sunday at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
