Bloomsburg Softball Team Splits Pair of Games at Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DE—The Bloomsburg University softball team ended its spring break trip with a split of a doubleheader with Wilmington University on Sunday. The Huskies won the opener 3-1 and dropped the nightcap, 2-0.
 
In game one the Huskies took a 2-0 lead in fourth inning. Taylor Parker (Dewart/Warrior Run) led off the inning with single and moved to third when Kayla McHale (Dillsburg/Northern) doubled. After a ground out to the pitcher held the runners at second and third, Hannah Moir (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape ) put down a bunt that scored Parker with the first run with McHale taking third and Moir reaching first.
 
After Moir took second on a wild pitch, Lea Rehm (Bloomsburg/Bloomsburg) walked to load the bases. Mandi Baer (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) then reached on a fielder's choice with McHale out at the plate. Erika Yanora (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) then walked forcing in Moir with the second run.
 
Bloomsburg made it 3-0 in the fifth inning without a hit. Chrissy Belko (Old Forge/Old Forge) reached second on a throwing error by the third baseman and later moved to third on a passed ball. McHale then grounded out with Belko scoring.
 
The Wilcats got one run back in the sixth inning, but left two runners stranded when Parker induced a ground out to end the inning.
 
The Huskies did threaten in the top of the seventh, but could not score. In the bottom half of the seventh, Parker allowed a two-out single to Wilmington, but got a game-ending ground out to preserve the win.
 
Parker earned her fifth win of the season giving up nine hits, striking out two and not allowing a walk.
 
In game two Wilmington made single runs in the third and fifth innings hold up as it picked up its eighth win of the season.
 
Bloomsburg did have several good scoring chances in the game. The Huskies threatened in the first inning loading the bases with two outs. However, Wilmington got a fly out to end the inning. In the third inning Bloomsburg had runners at first and second, but a fly out again ended the threat.
 
Wilmington scored an unearned run in the bottom of the third, then added a second unearned run in the fifth inning.
 
The Huskies did bring the tying run to the plate in both the sixth and seventh innings, but each time the Wildcats got out of the inning without any damage.
 
Bloomsburg's Mallory Tomaschik (Catawissa/Southern Columbia) suffered the loss for the Huskies going the first 4 2/3 innings.
 
The Huskies, now 10-5, play at Shippensburg on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
