BLOOMSBURG—Playing at home for the first time this season the Bloomsburg University softball team took advantage of its familiar surroundings by sweeping a pair of games from Millersville University winning 10-1 in five innings and 4-3 in eight innings.

GAME ONE
In the opener the Huskies used two big innings to score the win by mercy rule. After Millersville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning the Huskies put four runs on the board in the bottom of the second inning and added six more in the third.

Taylor Parker (Dewart/Warrior Run) led off with a walk and moved to second on a bunt. Chrissy Belko (Old Forge/Old Forge) looped a single just fair down the right field line to put runners at the corners. Rachel Fredell (Dingmans Ferry/Delaware Valley) then put down a beautiful suicide squeeze bunt scoring Parker. Fredell was safe at first on the play with Belko hustling to third base. After a pop out, Kayla McHale (Dillsburg/Northern) singled to right scoring Belko with the second run and Fredell going to third. Erika Yanora (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) followed with a double scoring both Fredell and McHale for a 4-1 lead.

The Huskies added six runs in the bottom of the third. Sarah Bertoni (Nanticoke/Greater Nanticoke Area) led off with a homer to center field to make it 5-1 on. Parker then walked. After a pop up and strike out, Fredell reached on an error putting runners at first and second. Anna McElroy (Jessup/Valley View) then blasted a three-run home to left field for an 8-1 Bloomsburg lead. After a pitching change, McHale reached on an error and then raced home on a double by Yanora to make it 9-1. Mandi Baer (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) then doubled down the right field line scoring Yanora giving the Huskies a 10-1 lead.

Millersville made it interesting in the top of the fifth loading the bases with no outs against Parker. But the freshman hurler got out the jam by inducing a pop up to third base and then getting a game ending double play.

Yanora went 2-3 with two RBI, while McElroy was 1-3 with three RBI. Parker got the win going the distance and allowing three hits, one run, and striking out six and walking four.

GAME TWO
Scoreless in the bottom of the second the Huskies struck first with Bertoni walking and moving to third on a double by Parker. After a ground out held both runners, Bertoni came home on a wild pitch.

The Huskies added to their lead in the bottom of the third. With two outs, McHale singled, stole second. After Mandi Baer (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) and Bertoni walked to load the bases, Parker singled to center scoring McHale and Baer for a 3-0 lead. Millersville worked out of the jam without any further damage.

The Marauders got one back in the top of the fourth getting a solo homer from Danielle DiFilippo, then tied the score in the sixth. After two were out in the inning Heather Lutz doubled and Maria Spinosa singled putting runners at second and third. Brittany Smith then singled scoring Lutz and leaving runners at the corners. Ashley Cantiello then singled to center driving in Spinosa with the tying run.

In the bottom of the seventh the Huskies threatened to win the game loading the bases with one out, but Millersville pitcher Amanda Wink worked out of the jam and sent the game to extra innings.
