Anna McElroy's first home run of the season.
Sarah Bertoni also homered, while
Taylor Parker threw a complete game, striking out six. In game two, the Huskie won 4-3 in eight innings. Parker recorded two hits and two RBI, while
Chrissy Belko drove in the game-winning run in the eighth inning.
Mallory Tomaschik picked the win in relief, throwing two scoreless innings without allowing a hit.
SCOUTING KUTZTOWNThe Golden Bears will seek to snap a four-game losing streak when they visit
Jan Hutchinson Field on Wednesday. Kutztown was swept in back-to-back doubleheaders first at No. 23 West Chester on Saturday (2-0, 3-1) and then at Shippensburg on Sunday (4-3, 1-0 nine innings).
-Kutztown ranks 12th in the PSAC in batting average at .248 but is seventh in home runs with 15.
-The Golden Bears have had strong pitching, recording a team ERA of 2.77 - a mark that is good for sixth in the PSAC.
-Senior first baseman Colleen Smith leads the Golden Bears and is sixth in the PSAC in batting average, hitting .409 for the year. Freshman infielder Marka Ballard (.316), Sophomore infielder Danielle Sienko (.311) and senior outfielder Jackie Hetzler (.306) all add potent bats in the KU lineup.
-Junior Dominique Ficara has been the ace of the pitching staff, posting a 10-10 record with a 2.37 ERA in 132.2 innings pitched. Freshman Savannah Nierintz (2-7, 3.23) and junior Mary Kociencki (2-4, 3.39) have also seen starts in the circle.
PITCHING THEIR WAY TO THE TOPThe Huskies have had excellent pitching this spring, leading the PSAC in team ERA at 1.84. The Huskies' 115 strikeouts as a pitching staff are also among the upper tier of PSAC teams. Freshman
Taylor Parker (Dewart/Warrior Run) has been a great addition to the staff this year, leading the team with an 8-5 record and 1.13 ERA in 74.1 innings of work.
Mallory Tomaschik (Catawissa/Southern Columbia) (3-2, 1.68) and
Sarah Bertoni (Nanticoke/Greater Nanticoke Area) (3-1, 2.27) also add ERAs under 3.00.
UPPERCLASSMEN LEADING THE WAYPlaying a big part in last weeks' wins over Millersville were upperclassmen
Erika Yanora,
Kayla McHale and
Chrissy Belko. All three recorded at least seven hits in the four games last week. Yanora batted .533 (8-15) while McHale and Belko each hit .467 (7-15) in the four games. McHale led the way with six RBI and a grand slam. Yanora recorded three doubles, while both she and Belko scored three runs apiece.
YANORA NAMED ATHLETE OF THE WEEKJunior
Erika Yanora (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) was honored as the PSAC East Athlete of the Week on Monday after hitting .533 with three RBI over the past four games, of which the Huskies won three. She finished the stretch with a .562 on-base percentage and .733 slugging percentage. For the year, Yanora is hitting .338 with a home run and 15 RBI including a team-high nine doubles.
