BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University softball team split its doubleheader with Lock Haven on Friday winning 4-3 in game one and dropping the nightcap 5-2.  The games begin a stretch of games on eight of the next nine days for Bloomsburg due to the rash of postponements this spring.

The Huskies go to 16-11, 8-6 in the PSAC East, while Lock Have is now 15-22, 10-12 in the PSAC East. Bloomsburg plays at Mansfield on Saturday at 1 p.m.

GAME ONE
Huskies pitcher Taylor Parker (Dewart/Warrior Run) and Lock Haven's Rachel Mouillesseaux were locked in a scoreless battle through the first three innings with Bloomsburg being held hitless through three. Despite the lack of a hit the Huskies did get a runner to second base in each of the first two innings, only to leave the runner stranded.

In the bottom of the fourth inning the Huskies finally broke through. With one out Parker got Bloomsburg's first hit and Hannah Moir (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape ) also singled putting runners at first and second. Rachel Fredell (Dingmans Ferry/Delaware Valley) then doubled to left field with Parker and Moir scoring giving the Huskies a 2-0 lead. Fredell was gunned down at third trying to advance on the throw home for out number two with the inning ending without any other scoring.

In the top of the fifth Lock Haven got a double from Paige Stuppy and a single from MaKaylah Holbert putting runners at second and third. After a walk loaded the bases, Stuppy scored on a wild pitch. After another walk reloaded the bases Parker's second wild pitch plated the second run for LHU. The third run for the Lady Eagles came on a ground out making it 3-2.

The Huskies came back and tied the game at 3-3 with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Erika Yanora (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) doubled to lead off and moved to third on Kayla McHale (Dillsburg/Northern)'s bunt single. Mandi Baer (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) then dropped down a perfect squeeze bunt scoring Yanora with the tying run.

Lock Haven threatened in the top of the sixth putting runners at second and third with two outs, but Parker got a ground out to retire the side.

In the bottom of the sixth inning Moir singled to left and moved to second on an error. After Fredell bunted Moir to third, Chrissy Belko (Old Forge/Old Forge) singled home Moir with the go-ahead run. Bloomsburg would load the bases in the inning, but Lock Haven got a fly out to end the threat.

The Lady Eagles did bring the go-ahead run to the plate with two outs, but Parker got a ground out to end the game.

Parker threw the complete game allowing just four hits, while striking out three and walking four. Moir went 2-3 and scored two runs, while Yanora was 2-4 with a run scored and McHale 2-3.

GAME TWO
Bloomsburg took the early lead in game two getting a first inning run. Yanora singled to lead off the bottom of the first. McHale then reached on a fielder's choice with Yanora taking second. Mandi Baer (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) advanced the runners with a bunt with Caitlin O'Connor (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) driving in Yanora with a sacrifice fly.

The Huskies made it 2-0 in the third when Belko singled, moved to second on sacrifice, and scored on McHale's single to right field.

Lock Haven rallied in the top of the fourth scoring three times in five hits. The big blow in the inning was a two-run double by pitcher Jessie Probst.

The Lady Eagles stretched the lead to 5-2 with a pair of runs in the sixth taking advantage of three errors.

Bloomsburg did bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning with one out after Fredell and Belko singled, but Lock Haven's Mouillesseaux, on in relief, got the final two outs for the save.
