LIVE STATS -ODD # GAMESBLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University softball team will begin its quest for its 16th PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) Championship on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Veteran's Park in Quakertown. The Huskies, the second seed from the PSAC East, will face Gannon, the third seed from the PSAC West.
Tickets for the tournament are $10 per day with children under 12 free. Students of a PSAC institution will be admitted free with a valid school ID.
BLOOMSBURGThe Huskies, 26-15, go into the championships on a role having won six of their last eight games.
Bloomsburg is led by a strong group of upper classmen led by
Chrissy Belko (Old Forge/Old Forge). The senior centerfielder is hitting .398 with nine homers and 27 RBI and is tied for the team lead in runs scored with 29.
Infielder
Erika Yanora (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) is also having a solid season with the bat hitting .369 with four homers and 26 RBI, while right fielder
Kayla McHale (Dillsburg/Northern) is hitting .363 with a homer and 19 RBI.
In the circle the Huskies staff is led by freshman
Taylor Parker (Dewart/Warrior Run) who is 13-7 with a 1.57 ERA. When Parker is not pitching she moves to shortstop. At the plate the freshman is hitting .307 with four homers and 22 RBI.
The Huskies other starter is
Sarah Bertoni (Nanticoke/Greater Nanticoke Area), a junior transfer from Millersville. Bertoni is 7-2 with a 2.21 ERA. At the plate Bertoni is hitting .386 with five homers and 20 RBI.
Bloomsburg will face Gannon in the opening round for the third straight. The Huskies won each of the last two years by identical scores of 7-1.
GANNONGannon finished the regular season with a record of 23-19, 16-12 in the West.
Junior Jess Rectenwald is the team's top hitter at .455 with a homer and 22 RBI. She also has a team-high 18 doubles. Kirstie Cortazzo is second at .391 with five homers and 29 RBI and is second on the teams in doubles with 12.
Rectenwald leads the team in the circle with a record of 12-6 with a 2.60 ERA, while Olivia Gumbita is 7-5 with a 2.13 ERA.
Bloomsburg leads the all-time series with the Golden Knights, 7-1.
The winner of the BU-Gannon game will face the winner of the other opening round game between California (Pa) and Mansfield at 4 p.m with both losing teams meeting at 5 p.m. in an elimination game.
