LOCK HAVEN—The Bloomsburg University softball team split its PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) Eastern Division doubleheader with Lock Haven on Sunday winning the opener 1-0 and dropping the nightcap, 4-1.
GAME ONEWhile the score would indicate a pitchers duel, the two teams combined for 14 hits on the day, but just one run. Bloomsburg pitcher
Taylor Parker (Dewart/Warrior Run) scattered eight hits and fanned seven, while not allowing a walk to get the win. The Lady Eagles had at least one hit in each inning and left runners on base in each frame.
While Parker was keeping the home team off the scoreboard, her counterpart from Lock Haven, Rachel Mouillesseaux was doing the same to the Huskies. Mouillesseaux surrendered six hits and fanned three and also did not walk a batter.
With the teams locked in a scoreless battle in the top of the sixth,
Erika Yanora (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) singled to lead off the inning, but was erased when Parker lined into a double play. That brought
Caitlin O'Connor (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) to the plate who slammed her second homer of the season giving Bloomsburg a 1-0 lead.
Lock Haven threatened in the bottom of the sixth getting a leadoff single and a one out double to put runners at second and third. Parker though came through in the clutch and fanned the next two batters to end the threat.
In the bottom of the seventh Lock Haven got a two-out single that brought the winning run to the plate, but Parker got a foul out to second to get the win.
O'Connor finished 2-3 with the solo homer, while Moir was also 2-3.
GAME TWOThe nightcap saw the Lady Eagles pull out a 4-1 victory with the help of the long ball.
Lock Haven got the scoring going early plating a first inning run. With one out Sarah Schwalm and McKenna Garlock had back-to-back singles. After Bloomsburg pitcher
Mandi Black (Huntington Mills/Northwest Area) got a pop out, Taylor McGee singled home Schwalm for a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Eagles made it 3-0 in the third when Schwalm walked to lead off the inning with Garlock following with a two-run homer.
Bloomsburg picked up its first hit of the game in the fourth inning when Moir singled in the infield, but Lock Haven pitcher Jessie Probst got a strikeout to end the frame.
Lock Haven added its fourth run of the game in the fourth getting an RBI double from Chelsea Edwards. In the fifth the Huskies finally broke through in the top of the fifth.
Kayla McHale (Dillsburg/Northern) singled and
Chrissy Belko (Old Forge/Old Forge) doubled to put runners at second and third.
Rachel Fredell (Dingmans Ferry/Delaware Valley) followed with a single scoring McHale and making it 4-1 and leaving runners at the corners. Lock Haven then made a change in the circle bringing in Mouillesseaux who worked out of the jam getting a pop up, strikeout and a fielder's choice.
Mouillesseaux closed out the game for Lock Haven retiring the final six batters of the game to earn the save.
Bloomsburg goes to 12-9, 4-4 in the PSAC East, while Lock Haven goes to 7-20, 2-10 in the PSAC East. The Huskies play at Millersville on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
