LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. – Five different Huskies found the back of the net as the Bloomsburg University men's soccer team exploded for a 5-1 victory at non-conference Chestnut Hill on Tuesday evening at Victory Field.
Â
With the win, the Huskies improve to 1-1-1 overall on the season.
Â
Chestnut Hill (1-3-1) started the scoring early, getting on the board in the fifth minute when Juan Amaya took a long pass from Nicholas Jaffe for a breakaway, beating the Huskies' keeper for the 1-0 lead.
Â
The host Griffins held that lead until the 30th minute when the Huskies began their onslaught. Redshirt freshman
Austin Transue (Langhorne/Neshaminy) tallied his first goal with the Huskies when he took advantage of a ball bouncing in the box after a deflection by the Griffins keeper, pushing a shot into the net for the tie.
Â
Transue's goal would mark the first of five tallies in a 27-minute span for Bloomsburg across the first and second half. The Huskies built a 3-1 lead before half time thanks to scores by
Brett Milden (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) and
Matt Zima (Newtown/Council Rock North).
Â
Milden recorded his first collegiate goal in the 43rd minute off a cross from fellow freshman
Hamilton Rodkey (Pittsburgh/Penn Hills). Rodkey passed to the center of the box from the right wing, allowing Milden to shoot past the Chestnut Hill keeper for what would end up being the game-winner.
Â
Just over a minute later, Zima scored unassisted off a free kick which was deflected into the net for a 3-1 lead at the half.
Â
Bloomsburg kept the pedal to the floor in the early second half, putting the match away with two quick goals. In the 56th minute it was
James Kiama (Shippensburg/Shippensburg) scoring on a breakaway following a Chestnut Hill turnover for a 4-1 score. Less than two minutes later,
Josh Smith (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) scored on a header off a corner kick, assisted by Rodkey for yet another Huskies goal.
Â
In all, the Huskies dominated the pace of play, leading Chestnut Hill in shots by a 17-8 margin, including 10-4 in the first half.
Â
Jared Ott (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) earned the win, making two saves in over 74 minutes of work.
Jacob Pesarcik (Whitehall/Whitehall) made one save and finished the match by playing the final 15:03 in goal for Bloomsburg.
Â
The Huskies return home for a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matches this weekend, first hosting Seton Hill on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and then Pitt-Johnstown at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, both at Steph Pettit Stadium.
