EAST STROUDSBURG – The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team continued its recent hot streak Wednesday night at East Stroudsburg, rolling to a 4-0 victory over the rival Warriors.
The victory marks the fourth in a row for the Huskies who move to 4-1-1 overall on the year and a perfect 3-0-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play. East Stroudsburg, meanwhile, falls to 1-5-1, 0-3-0.
Bloomsburg, ranked seventh in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) Atlantic Region poll, has outscored opponents 17-2 during its four-match winning streak.
A pair of goals in a span of 17 seconds from freshman
Anthony Cerda (Budd Lake, NJ/Mount Olive) gave the visitors control of the match. Cerda tallied the first goal in the 23rd minute, heading in a pass from
Matt Zima (Newtown/Council Rock North) for the 1-0 lead at the 22:20 mark. Cerda found the back of the net once more immediately after the resumption of play, this time taking an assist from fellow freshman
Brett Milden (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) and beating the ESU keeper for a 2-0 lead at 22:37.
From there it was all Bloomsburg. The Huskies seized a commanding 3-0 lead before halftime when
James Kiama (Shippensburg/Shippensburg) scored on a header off assists from
Mike Bamford (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) and
Brian Kilcoyne (Bensalem/Bensalem).
The Huskies finished the scoring in the 82nd minute as Zima tallied his third goal of the year.
Freshman goalkeeper
Jared Ott (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) was again stellar in net, making six saves to record his third shutout of the year.
Bloomsburg dominated every part of the match, holding a 21-9 edge in shots. J.B. Pahls made three saves for ESU.
The Huskies will look to keep their winning ways alive this Saturday as they continue PSAC play at home against West Chester. That match is scheduled to kick off at 5:00 p.m. inside Steph Pettit Stadium.Â
