Scouting KutztownKutztown beat 16th-ranked California (PA) 2-0 on Saturday. In the early minutes of the game, Diana Malanga found a ball in the box that squeezed through two Vulcan defenders in the sixth minute. KU made it 2-0 when Sam Costello ripped a ball into the back of the net from 22 yards out in the 12th minute. Goalie Deanna Messner made five saves to earn the shutout.
On the season Mariah Dimm leads the Golden Bears in scoring with seven points coming on three goals and one assist. Alaina Curry is second with four points on two goals. As a team Kutztown has scored 10 goals this season. In goal Messner has a 0.85 goals against average with six goals allowed and 24 saves made.
Last MeetingKutztown beat Bloomsburg 2-0 a year ago. The two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first 45 minutes. Kutztown broke through in the 58th minute when Sam Costello took an assist from Katie Oliveri and found the net for the first score of the match. The hosts found some insurance in the 70th minute when Megan Frailer's rebound off a Costello shot made the score 2-0. Rakiewicz earned the victory in goal making three saves for the Golden Bears.
