SCOUTING WCUWest Chester opened the season with eight straight wins before suffering two setbacks in crossover play - a 69-61 loss at Gannon on Dec. 17 and a 74-56 defeat at home vs. nationally ranked IUP on Sunday. The Golden Rams bounced back with a 62-55 road win at Seton Hill on Wednesday.
The Golden Rams boast a high-powered offense, ranking third in the PSAC in scoring at 75.7 ppg, powered by two of the conference's top 10 scorers - junior guard Dallas Ely (16.1 ppg, fourth) and junior guard Brittany Sicinski (14.8 ppg, ninth). Ely has scored in double figures 12 out of 13 games this year and tallied 20 or more points three times including a season-best 28 vs. Shippensburg. Sicinski, meanwhile, has registered double-figure scoring 11 times on the year.
Like Bloomsburg, WCU is also adept at forcing turnovers - opponents average 20.8 turnovers per game.
West Chester is led by first-year head coach Kiera Wooden. Wooden is no stranger to the program - she spent the last 10 years as the top assistant for longtime coach Deirdre Kane who retired during the summer after posting 19 winning seasons in 26 years at WCU. A four-year player for the Rams, Wooden was All-PSAC East three times and ranks fifth in Rams career scoring with 1,378 points.
LAST MEETING / SERIES HISTORYBloomsburg leads 37-32The Huskies and Golden Rams have a spirited history with one another, often with their meetings resulting in classic games. Bloomsburg has won three straight and eight of 12 games vs. West Chester under head coach
Bill Cleary with eight of those games being decided by single digits.
The Huskies swept last year's season series with an 88-80 road win and a 66-58 victory at Nelson Field House on Feb. 19, 2014. On that day, the Huskies leapfrogged West Chester to take control of the PSAC East, leading by nine at halftime. Bloomsburg stretched the advantage to 14 just three minutes into the second half, however the West Chester press got the Golden Rams back into the game while also using a 15-6 advantage on the offensive glass to chip away at their deficit. West Chester closed to within 53-52 with 5:42 to go, but a 3-pointer from
Jocelyn Ford (Lansing, NY/Lansing) stemmed the tide. The Rams remained within four with 37 seconds to go, but
Adreana Sadowski (Fleetwood/Brandywine Heights) worked herself behind the WCU defense for an easy layup to put the game away. Ford registered 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists to power the Huskies.
