HTML BOX SCOREBLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University football team scored touchdowns on nine of its 11 possessions and the Huskies defense held the Cheyney Wolves to just 69 yards of total offense in rolling to a 63-0 win on Saturday at Danny Hale Field at Robert B. Redman Stadium.
Â
The win was the largest victory by shutout for the Huskies since a 63-0 win over Lock Haven in 2005. It's also the first time the Huskies have held an opponent to less than 100 yards of total offense since limiting Cheyney (0-5, 0-2 PSAC East) to 55 yards on Oct. 16, 2004.
Â
The Huskies (3-2, 2-0 PSAC East) wasted little time taking the lead getting two,
Tim Kelly (Camp Hill/Cedar Cliff) to
Connor Gades (West Chester/Unionville) touchdown passes in the first quarter. The touchdowns were the first scored by the Huskies in the first quarter of a game this year. The first TD throw came from nine yards out, while the second toss was from 29-yards out.
Â
Bloomsburg scored four touchdowns in the second period, all on the ground, to take a commanding 42-0 lead into halftime.
Joe Parsnik (Wilkes-Barre/Coughlin) scored twice, once on a 10-yard run and the second on a four-yard scamper.
Â
Lawrence Elliott Jr. (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor) scored once on a one-yard run after just missing out on a score on a nice 25-yard catch and run that got the ball to the one and Eric McCraken scored on a 34-yard scamper right before halftime.
Â
In the third period the Huskies
Lamont Veal (Upper Darby/Cardinal O'Hara) caught his first career touchdown when he hauled in a 13-yard pass from backup
Chris Palubinsky (Ringtown/Shenandoah Valley).
Â
Bloomsburg closed out the scoring with a 34-yard run by
Wade Mastrog (Chester Springs/Downingtown East) early in the fourth period and a nifty, 19-yard run by
Alex Gooden (Parkesburg/Octorara) in which he reversed field and made several tacklers miss on his way to the end zone.
Â
The Huskies rolled up 474 yards of total offense, 291 on the ground and 183 passing. On defense Bloomsburg limited the Wolves to just 17 yards passing and 52 yards rushing on 46 plays for an average of 1.5 yards per play.
Â
Gooden had his second straight 100-yard rushing game picking up a career-high 128 yards on 16 carries, while Kelly finished 8-13 for 135 yards and two TD's with Gades catching three passes for 46 yards and two scores.
Â
Defensively
Tony David (Allentown/Salisbury) had six tackles, while
Nate Monroe (Hershey/Bishop McDevitt) and
Jake Klinger (Berwick/Central Columbia) each had five. As a team the Huskies had five sacks in the game and nine tackles for loss.
Â
Bloomsburg is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 10 visiting Millersville at 4 p.m.
