Men's Soccer Team Beats Shippensburg For 13th Win

HTML BOX SCORE

SHIPPENSBURG—The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team equaled the school record for wins in a season on Saturday when it beat Shippensburg University, 2-1, in the regular season finale. The Huskies equaled the win mark set a year ago.

Bloomsburg got on the board first in the eighth minute of the match when Nick Izzo (Frankford, DE/Indian River) scored from 18 yards out drilling a shot into the right corner of the goal. For Izzo it was his second goal of the season.

The Huskies added to their score in the 23rd minute of play. Anthony Cerda (Budd Lake, NJ/Mount Olive) put one past the Raiders goalie to put Bloomsburg on top 2-0 at that point.

Shippensburg had limited scoring opportunities in the final 45 minutes getting off a header, saved by Jared Ott (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan), in the 50th minute and a couple of shots that were either high or blocked.

The Raiders finally got on the board in the 83rd minute when Robert Furfaro banged in a missed shot that bounced off of Ott. Then in the game's final seconds Shippensburg had a penalty corner with Furfaro taking an attempt with five seconds to play. His shot, though, was wide and the Huskies got the win.

Bloomsburg, now 12-4, 8-3 in the PSAC, will host Lock Haven on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) playoffs. The Huskies will be the third seed, while the Bald Eagles will be the sixth seed. The winner of the game advances to the PSAC semifinals on Friday at Mercyhurst to face the second seed, Millersville.
