Women's Soccer Team Beats Clarion on Saturday

HTML BOX SCORE

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 1-0 win over Clarion University on Saturday afternoon. The win clinched a spot in next week's PSAC playoffs for the Huskies who will be the eight seed and face top-seeded Gannon on Tuesday. Game time will be announced later.

The game was back and forth in the early going before Huskies started to control field position about 10 minutes into play. In the 12th minute the Huskies had a great scoring chance when Rachel Yenney (Collegeville/Perkiomen Valley) pushed a nice ball to a streaking Ashley Sanchez (Lyndhurst/DePaul Catholic) who had the goalie beat. But her shot hit off the right post keeping the game scoreless.

Bloomsburg finally broke through late in the half on a corner kick. Allie Camp (Beavertown/Midd-West) took the kick and lofted the ball towards the center of the box. Senior Hailey Vonasek (Sparks, MD/Notre Dame Prep) went up in the crowd and headed the ball past the Clarion goalie to make it 1-0. For Vonasek it was her first goal of the year.

The second half was a physical battle with Clarion getting called for numerous fouls and three yellow cards (four for the game). Bloomsburg held the advantage in shots in the second half, 10-4, and in corner kicks, 3-2.

Clarion's best scoring chance camae in the 76th minute on a shot by Veronika Noyszewski, but Bloomsburg's Devon Haviland (Warminster/Archbishop Wood) made a sure-handed save to keep it 1-0.

The Huskies appeared to have taken a 2-0 lead in the 83rd minute when Camp to Vonasek connected again on a corner, but Bloomsburg was called for offsides.

Bloomsburg, 11-6-1, 9-6-1 PSAC, posted its third straight shutout with Haviland making five saves. Clarion ends the year at 5-12-1, 4-11-1 in the PSAC.
