HTML BOX SCOREBLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University field hockey lost in overtime to fifth-ranked Kutztown, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon in a PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) matchup.
The game was back and forth in the early going before Kutztown strung together three penalty corner in a two-minute span midway through the period. But Bloomsburg's
Lindsay Cassel (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin), who made seven first half saves, and
Tess Shelly (New Cumberland/Cedar Cliff) had two defensive saves, were able to keep it scoreless.
The Golden Bears did score in the 42
nd minute when Courtney Ueberroth fed Megan Tiwold who drilled home the shot for a 1-0 advantage.
The Huskies finally broke through in the 66
th minute off a penalty corner. On a battle for the ball
Eleanor Kirby (Garnet Valley/Garnet Valley) poked the ball through for a goal to knot the game at 1-1.
In overtime the Huskies had two looks early in the period, but went wide on one shot and had Kutztown goalie Kayle Denlinger save a second shot. The Golden Bears then moved back down field and in the fifth minute of action got a goal from Anna Behm who backhanded a pass from Madison Wampler for the game winning goal.
Bloomsburg falls to 6-6, 2-2 in the PSAC, while Kutztown goes to 9-3, 4-1 in the PSAC. The Huskies host West Chester on Saturday at 3 p.m.
