Women’s Basketball Mounts Ferocious Fourth Quarter Rally To Stun Seton Hill, 82-79

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team rallied from 13 points down with just under seven minutes left to post a stunning come-from-behind, 82-79, victory on the road at Seton Hill to open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Huskies remained unbeaten, improving to 3-0 overall. The Griffins dropped to 2-2 on the year. It was the PSAC opener for both programs.

Trailing 71-58 with 6:56 left in the contest, Bloomsburg went on a 20-0 run over the next six-and-a-half minutes, shocking the Seton Hill faithful in the process, to take a seven-point lead with 26 seconds remaining.

Junior Alex Ross (Lancaster/Manheim Township) started the rally with a layup to cut the lead to 11. A layup from junior Mia Hopkins (Pittston/Pittston Area) and a free throw by redshirt senior Adreana Sadowski (Fleetwood/Brandywine Heights) got the Griffin lead down to eight with 4:40 left. Layups from Sadowski and Hopkins and four consecutive free throws – two from Hopkins and and two from junior Morgan Klunk (Felton/York Catholic) - tied the game at 71-71 with 2:53 left.

But, the Huskies were far from done. Hopkins made one-of-two foul shots with 1:50 remaining to give Bloomsburg a one-point lead – its first lead since a 37-35 advantage with 3:40 left in the first half. Hopkins hit four more free throws, sandwiched around a make by Klunk, to end the 20-0 run. The Huskies would not make a field goal over the last 4:03 but would go 15-of-17 at the foul line to seal the win.

Bloomsburg got off to a great start, leading 21-14 after the opening quarter. But, the Griffins would outscore Bloomsburg, 50-33, in the second and third quarters to take a ten-point lead into the fourth.

Hopkins continued her blazing start to her first season in a Bloomsburg uniform. She posted her third double-double in three career games with the Huskies, pouring in a game-high 27 points to go along with 11 rebounds. She scored 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the season-opening win at New Haven and then followed that performance with 17 points and ten boards in a win at Goldey-Beacom prior to Saturday afternoon. The transfer from Division I Monmouth went 8-of-17 from the field and 10-of-13 from the foul line.

Sadowski picked up her first double-double of the season, dropping in 13 points and grabbing ten rebounds. Klunk also finished in double figures after scoring 15 points in the victory. Ross had a solid effort with eight points and seven rebounds. Junior Kristie Costantino (Norristown/Archbishop John Carroll) led the Huskies with four assists while also chipping in with a season-high eight points.

Alexandria Deep scored 18 points to lead four Griffins in double figures.

Seton Hill was an impressive 13-of-30 from three-point range, including 7-of-10 in the second half. The Griffins shot better from long range (43.3%) than they did from two-point range (36.6%). The Huskies, meanwhile, were 27-of-62 (43.5%) from the field on Saturday, but made just three of twenty three-point tries.

Bloomsburg returns to action on Sunday, November 22, when it travels to California University of Pennsylvania. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
