HTML BOX SCORE

SHIPPENSBURG--Sam Peters (Harrisburg/Mifflin County) goal off an assist from Tali Wehner (Bloomsburg/Bloomsburg) 22 seconds into overtime lifted the Bloomsburg University field hockey team to a 3-2, overtime win over Shippensburg University in the quarterfinals of the 2015 PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) playoffs on Tuesday.

The Huskies, who lost to the Raiders 3-0 on Saturday, got on the board first in the 25th minute when Laura Gerhard (Catasauqua/Catasauqua) punched the ball on a scrum off a rebound of a shot by Peters. For Gerhard it was her first goal of the season.

Shippensburg answered right back just over three minutes later when Kendall Beck scored on a Molly Stuart assist.

It stayed 1-1 through the end of the first half and well into the second half of play. In the back and forth play the Huskies generated three penalty corners and the Raiders one.

On the fourth corner play Peters fed the ball to Jackie Shragher (Holland/Council Rock South) who drilled it home to give Bloomsburg a 2-1 advantage in the 62nd minute. The Raiders, though, wasted little time in getting even again. Two minutes later Kendall Beck redirected a shot from Suzanne Miller to tie the game at 2-2 with just over six minutes to play.

Shippensburg had a chance to go ahead with Beck getting off a shot in the 65th minute. Shragher though came up with the defensive save to keep it 2-2 and send it overtime.

In the seven-on-seven overtime, Wehner and Peters were on a 2-1 breakaway with Wehner feeding a pass in front of the crease to Peters for the easy shot just 22 seconds into the period.

For the game the Huskies and Raiders were even in shot attempts at 12-12 with Shippensburg holding an 11-6 edge in corners.

Bloomsburg goalie Lindsay Cassel (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin) made four saves to get the win, while Shippensburg goalie Taylor Webser stopped six shots.

The Huskies, now 10-9, advance to Friday's semifinal round at East Stroudsburg where they'll face Millersville at 11 am. Shippensburg falls to 13-5.
