SHIPPENSBURG—A complete game shutout by Bloomsburg University pitcher Taylor Parker (Dewart/Warrior Run) highlighted a split of the Huskies doubleheader with Shippensburg University on Sunday afternoon in a PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) Eastern Division matchup. Bloomsburg won the opener 5-0, while dropping game two, 4-2.

In the opener the Huskies jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning. After a strikeout to lead off the inning Valerie Carcasses (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat) was hit by a pitch. Emily Mayhew (Perkasie/Pennridge) followed with a single to put runners at first and second.  Kayla McHale (Dillsburg/Northern) then slammed her third homer of the season to give Bloomsburg a 3-0 lead.

Meanwhile in the circle Parker was complete control. She allowed just a lead off walk in the first inning and had a runner reach on an error in the second. She didn't give up her first hit till the fifth inning. In the sixth she allowed a second hit, but the runner was out on an appeal for missing first base.

The Huskies added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh with Sarah Bertoni (Nanticoke/Greater Nanticoke Area) singling in Mayhew and McHale.

In the bottom of the seventh Parker put the Raiders down in order getting the last out on a strike out. The sophomore finished the game allowing just two hits, one walk and striking out five to earn her fourth win of the year.

Shippensburg came back and won game two 4-2 scoring all four of its runs in the third inning. The Raiders banged out three hits in the inning and took advantage of two errors by the Huskies. The big hit in the inning was a two-run homer by Liz Parkins.

Bloomsburg got its two runs in the fourth inning. With one out Sarah Bertoni (Nanticoke/Greater Nanticoke Area) walked with Mayhew reaching on an infield single. After a ground out moved Bertoni and Mayhew to second and third, pinch-hitter Maggie Hall (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown) delivered a two-run single to center field scoring Bertoni and Mayhew. Shippensburg pitcher Quincy Lewis though got a ground ball to end the threat.

The Huskies did bring the tying run to the plate in the fifth and seventh innings, but could not score.

McHale led the offense going 2-4, while Hall was 1-2 with two RBI.

Bloomsburg goes to 6-6, 1-1 in the PSAC East, with the split. The Huskies return to action on Wednesday hosting Lock Haven at 2:30 p.m.
