WINONA STATE BOXCLERMONT, FL--The Bloomsburg University softball team team opened its 2015 season on Sunday dropping a pair of games in Clermont, FL as part of the Dot Richardson Games. The Huskies fell to Northern State (SD), 5-2, and Winona State, 10-1.
GAME ONEIn game one the Huskies got out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when
Kayla McHale (Dillsburg/Northern) doubled and later came into score on Cailtlin O'Connor's RBI single. Northern State tied the score in the top of the fourth inning taking advantage of a leadoff walk and a couple of stolen bases to tie the game at 1-1.
The Wolves broke the game open scoring four times in the top of the sixth inning taking advantage of a couple of walks and an error to lead 5-1 after six innings.
Bloomsurg got one run back in the bottom of the seventh before the rally ended.
Erica Keen (Gordonville/Bishop Shanahan) tripled with one out and scored on McHale's double, but that's as close as the Huskies would get.
McHale went 2-4 with a run scored an an RBI in the game for Bloomsburg, while O'Connor was 2-3 with an RBI.
Mallory Tomaschik (Catawissa/Southern Columbia) suffered the loss in the circle.
GAME TWOWinona State scored in each inning on its way to a 10-1, 5 inning win over Bloomsburg. The Warriors banged out six hits in the game and took advantaege of 10 walks and three errors to get the win.
Offensively for Bloomsburg O'Connor had two hits and scored a run, while
Valerie Carcasses (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat) had an RBI single to drive in the Huskies only run.
