GAME TWO BOX (HTML)KUTZTOWN--The Bloomsburg University softball team split a pair of games with Kutztown on Sunday winning the opener 2-0 and dropping the nightcap 3-0.
In game one
Taylor Parker (Dewart/Warrior Run) scattered three hits in posting the shutout, while
Valerie Carcasses (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat) went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored to help Bloomsburg to the win. The game was scoreless going to the top of the third inning when Carcasses doubled with one out and moved to third on a wild pitch. After
Holly Peacock (Williamsport/Jersey Shore) walked,
Erika Yanora (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) singled to right field scoring Carcasses.
Kutztown threatened in the fourth inning, but Parker escaped the jam. With one out Danielle Amato singled, but was left stranded with the Golden Bears twice flying out to the warning track in the frame.
Bloomsburg got an insurance run in the top of the seventh. With two outs
Anna McElroy (Jessup/Valley View) tripled and scored on a single by Carcasses for a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the seventh Kutztown put two runners on base with one out. Parker, though, got an infield pop up and a ground ball out to end the threat and the game.
In game two Kutztown allowed just four hits in blanking the Huskies. Peacock went 2-3, including a double, but Savannah Nierintz kept the Huskies off the board.
Bloomsburg threatened in the top of the first getting runners at the corners with two outs. But a line out ended the inning. In the third Yanora, who reached on a fielder's choice, went to send on a wild pitch with two outs, but could not score.
In the fifth inning Peacock doubled with one out, but again the Huskies failed to get the big hit.
Kutztown took a 1-0 lead in the third and got two more in the fifth after putting together three hits in the inning.
Bloomsburg is now 12-8, 7-3 in the PSAC East. The Huskies will host Shippensburg on Monday at 2:30 p.m.
