VIDEO HIGHLIGHTSBLOOMSBURG- The No. 9 ranked Bloomsburg University field hockey team got back in the win column on a rainy Saturday afternoon, as they defeated Mercyhurst, 4-1, in a non-conference matchup.

The Huskies took control from the start of the game, recording six shots and four penalty corners in the first 15 minutes. In the 16
th minute of play,
Tess Shelly (New Cumberland/Cedar Cliff) took a shot that was knocked down by Mercyhurst goalie Sam Takac only to have
Abby Sauder (Mt. Joy/Donegal) put the rebound in the back of the cage for her first goal of the season.

Less than two minutes later,
Sam Peters (Yeagertown/Mifflin County) put one past the goalie after a scramble in front of the cage, giving Bloomsburg a 2-0 lead. It would be Peters' second goal of the year.
Mercyhurst, cut the deficit in half, getting a goal from Nicolette Tomani just before halftime to cut the lead to 2-1.

The Lakers would come out strong to start the second half, recording several shots in the first few minutes, but
Lindsay Cassel (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin) turned each attempt away in the cage. Bloomsburg would go on the offensive, and in the 45
th minute,
Nikki Gattone (Reading/Muhlenberg) sent a shot from the top of the circle into the back of the cage to give the Huskies a 3-1 advantage.

Bloomsburg would strike again less than 10 minutes later as
Whitney Kowski (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills Regional) deflected a shot from Shelly past the goalie putting the Huskies on top, 4-1.

Cassel made 12 saves in the cage, which was the third-highest of her careÂÂer. Bloomsburg outshot Mercyhurst 17-15, as Peters lead the way with four shots.

The Huskies will host Seton Hill on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
