Box Score HTML BOX SCOREBLOOMSBURG—The seventh-ranked Bloomsburg University field hockey team won it PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) opener on Wednesday beating Slippery Rock, 3-1, at Steph Pettit Stadium.

Slippery Rock converted its first scoring chance just 2:05 into the contest when Kayla Mack took a pass from Courtney Bradshaw and hit the left side of the cage for a 1-0 lead.

The Huskies and Rock then went back and forth for the next 20 minutes with neither team converting. The Rock was 0-2 on penalty corners in that stretch.

Bloomsburg finally was able to get on the board on its first penalty corner of the game.
Peyton Shockley (Milford, DE/Milford) delivered a nice pass, just to the right of the goalie, to
Stephanie Halsted (Fairfax Station, VA/South County) who was positioned down in front of the cage. Halsted then easily hit a backhanded shot to tie the score.

It stayed 1-1 through the end of the half with neither team getting a very good look at the cage.

In the second half Bloomsburg dominated the action and controlled field position getting eight corners to one for the Rock. On the sixth corner of the half
Eleanor Kirby (Garnet Valley/Garnet Valley), who started the play on the end line, was on the receiving end of a pass from
Geneka Mahan (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) and drilled home the go-ahead score.

The Huskies scored on the game's final play when
Whitney Kowski (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills Regional) got a pass from
Sally DeLuca (West Pittston/Wyoming Area) on a penalty corner and hit the right side of the cage for a 3-1 final score.

Bloomsburg held a 16-4 edge in shots (14-3 in shots on goal) and 11-4 edge in penalty corners. Huskies goalie
Lindsay Cassel (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin) stopped two shots in the win.

Bloomsburg is now 5-2, 1-0 in the PSAC, while the Rock is 3-5, 0-1 in the PSAC. The Huskies play at Mansfield on Saturday at 6 p.m.
