BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup on Saturday to California (PA), 4-3, in double overtime at Steph Pettit Stadium. The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Huskies.

The Vulcans jumped ahead in the 19th minute on a goal off the head of Eric Campbell. The Huskies responded five minutes later as Kenny Herrmann (Langhorne/Neshaminy) took a pass from Austin Transue (Langhorne/Neshaminy) and found the back of the net to tie the game.

Transue would give Bloomsburg the lead in the 29th minute after he poked a ball out of a scrum of Cal defenders and past the goalie. Jared Ott (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) would make three saves and keep the Vulcans out of the net, as the Huskies took a 2-1 lead into halftime.

Immediately upon play resuming in the second half, Transue would take a pass from Nick Izzo (Frankford, DE/Indian River) and take a shot from 18-yards out that would go off of the post and in the back of the goal for a 3-1 Bloomsburg advantage.

Ott would make several point-blank saves in the next 15 minute, but Cal's Mike Cummings would find an opening over Ott's left shoulder in the 69th minute to make it a 3-2 game. The Vulcans struck again in the 82nd minute as Jesse Scheirer put back a rebound to tie the game at 3-3. Neither team would score in the remaining minutes left in regulation.

Bloomsburg failed to convert on its chances in the first overtime as Nick Izzo (Frankford, DE/Indian River) saw his shot go just wide of the goal, and Anthony Cerda (Budd Lake, NJ/Mount Olive) had a header saved by Cal goalie Lucas Exner.

In the second extra period, Mike Cummings would have a header off of a corner kick saved by Ott, only to have the rebound kicked in by Campbell for the win.

The Vulcans, 4-3 (2-2 PSAC,) outshot Bloomsburg, 19-17, while the teams tied with five corner kicks apiece.

The Huskies, now 7-2, (4-2 PSAC), will play again on Oct. 30, when they travel to Slippery Rock. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
