HTML BOX SCOREBLOOMSBURG—In a battle of top five teams in NCAA Division II field hockey, the third-ranked East Stroudsburg Warriors beat the fifth-ranked Bloomsburg University Huskies, 3-0, at Steph Pettit Stadium.
The Warriors controlled field position for much of the first half, but were not able to get on the board despite getting five penalty corners in the first 25 minutes of action. East Stroudsburg finally broke through in the 30
th minute of play when Hannah Caplan intercepted a ball as it was leaving the Huskies offensive zone. Caplan then took it to the left and drilled a left-handed shot to the right corner of the goal.
East Stroudsburg made it 2-0 in the 40 minute when Sydney McCarthy made a pass in the circle to Desiraye Mack who was to the left. Mack then hammered home a shot to extend the Warriors lead.
Mack made it 3-0 later in the half when she dribbled the ball into the circle and, from the top, drilled a shot to the left side of the cage.
For the game East Stroudsburg (7-2, 2-0 PSAC) had 11 shots to seven for the Huskies and held the edge in corners, 9-6.
Bloomsburg (6-3, 2-1 PSAC) hosts Limestone on Friday at 4 p.m.
